Another massive solar flare, just erupted, hours after the previous LARGE sun storm sent a stream of energized particles racing toward Earth.
The X2.5-class solar flare erupted at 6:12 p.m. EDT (2212 GMT) on Tuesday (Sept. 6) and hit its peak strength eight minutes later, according to a space weather update by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
This X2.5 flare occurred less than 24 hours after another intense
and dramatic M5.3 solar flare storm.

I guess every is still sleeping because in all the world I can't find another person reporting on this.
A few hours ago a MAJOR MAJOR flare occured, looking to be MUCH larger then the M.6 or M.9 which just happened. Now we have the proton flux chart going way up and charged particles all over the current SOHO C3!
It's going to be a wild day for reporting and gathering data. Have fun folks. Here's my catches.

The CME left the sun traveling 800 km/s and it will reach Earth on June 23rd at 23:22 UT (plus or minus 7 hours). A 3D heliospheric model shows the cloud sweeping past our planet. The impact is expected to trigger a G2-class (Kp=6) geomagnetic storm.

Geomagnetic Storm Subsiding A geomagnetic storm that sparked auroras around the Arctic Circle and sent Northern Lights spilling over the Canadian border into the United States on April 12, 2011 is subsiding. NOAA forecasters estimate a 25% chance of more geomagnetic activity during the next 24 hours.
April 12, 2011: A G1-class geomagnetic storm is in progress, sparked by a high-speed solar wind stream which is buffeting Earth's magnetic field. High latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras.
What is a geomagnetic storm?
The Earth's magnetosphere is created by our magnetic field and protects us from most of the particles the sun emits. When a CME or high-speed stream arrives at Earth it buffets the magnetosphere. If the arriving solar magnetic field is directed southward it interacts strongly with the oppositely oriented magnetic field of the Earth. The Earth's magnetic field is then peeled open like an onion allowing energetic solar wind particles to stream down the field lines to hit the atmosphere over the poles. At the Earth's surface a magnetic storm is seen as a rapid drop in the Earth's magnetic field strength. This decrease lasts about 6 to 12 hours, after which the magnetic field gradually recovers over a period of several days.

The X2 flare of Feb. 15, 2011 seen by SDO (in extreme ultraviolet light) enlarged and superimposed on SOHO's coronagraph that shows the faint edge of a "halo" coronal mass ejection as it races away from the Sun. The video covers about 11 hours.

Sunspot 1158 unleashed the strongest solar flare in more than four years. The eruption, which peaked at 0156 UT on February15th registered X2 on the Richter scale of solar flares.
X-flares are the strongest type of solar flare, and this is the first such eruption of new Solar Cycle 24. In addition to flashing Earth with UV radiation, the explosion also hurled a coronal mass ejection (CME) in our direction.

When I was a teenager, say 1997 or so, I created lots of art and experimental music. The internet was still a pretty new medium and I was researching the most advanced stuff I could find. Accelerated learning, I studied the Art of Noise theories of futurist Luigi Russolo -- I listened to all the good crazy stuff. Harry Partch, Sonic Youth, Sun Ra, Cecil Taylor, Karl Stockhausen, The Boredoms, Flaming Lips.. I was also deeply into brainwave entrainment ideas. Into lucid dreaming ala Stephen LaBarge. Into solar imagery from (at that time) the new SOHO solar observation satellite. Into the healing potentials of light (Medicine of the future), sounds, and plants.
I creatively synthesized all the information in my mind, into an idea that if the suns light had such a positive effect on our health, the solar flare activity should certainly effect our minds consciousness. I figured it could effect dreams and increase potentials for creativity. And this would be evident in the experimental music I was creating and recording.
I imagined, as teenagers do, of releasing my recordings to the public. But somehow I never got around to it. I did post alot on visual and conceptual art in community forums, but I never shared much of my experimental noise music.
I'd always thought recording under the name "Solar Cycle 24" would be a good idea. It would be relevant until and during the times of 2012.
Fast forward to today, and we just had the first X class Solar Flare of cycle 24! It was an X2.2 which is very massive. It was pointed right at us and is impacting as I type. It was followed by a few M class and C class flares which will be impacting the magnetic feild in the coming days. So the least I can do is start this blog. It will probably be a mix of solar event reporting, creativity, and that noise music if I can get to it!
